So You Meet in a Tavern Kickoff Party at The Dime in Old Town - Friday, January 15, 8pm

SnowCon 2010 is almost here and we're celebrating with a kick-off party that you won't want to miss!

Geek comedian Sax Carr comes home from sunny LA to give us a wintry mix of good natured geek humor. And, as if that's not enough, the bellydancers of Paradigm East will entrance us with their graceful beauty and creative tribal fusion style. The Dime has a full bar and serves food until 1am. Admission to the "So You Meet in a Tavern" Kick-off Party is $5 at the door. Tickets are limited. This venue is 21+.

The Dime is located at 283 Main Street in Old Town, about 4 miles from the Black Bear Inn (but only two turns!)

Geek Comedian Sax Carr

Sax CarrSean started doing comedy in Washington DC, hosting his own local cable access talk show which ran for five years. He was accepted into Washington DC’s most dangerous comedy troupe Mission IMPROV-able, a group he would later produce and direct for two years. Starting his stand-up career in New York City he has played in various cities and clubs across the nation. He has over 15 years combined comedy experience. He has played at the World Famous Comedy Store, the Hollywood Improv, and Stand Up New York... as well as his first and favorite club the Comedy Connection Portland Maine... He's a lifelong player of RPGs and is one of the most sought after comedians speaking on the things he loves: comics, gaming, superhero, steampunk, and geek culture.

"My material is mostly based on the idea of "what would it be like" if we lived in that world, or around those characters. Face it, the world and lives of our heroes in these games is insane, it doesn't take long for a comedians eye to see that, and that's what I try to put forward."

Sean is one of very few comedians lucky enough to play San Diego Comic-Con, and the world famous Magic Castle (international headquarters of magic), and is most likely the only one who has ever played both. And the first to play SnowCon!

DJ Dehuman 8 is on loan to SnowCon from Portland's Gothic Maine Plague Night at the Asylum.

I started my snake charming career early in life, 4 or 6 months, can't quite remeber when. when the carny circut grew stale i moved onto greater ventures, not many people know it, but, i played the part of morris in those comercials. does anyone read these? after a fallout with my producer i decided that a life of crime was really the only way to truly make my name in the world. unfortuantly i was too good at it, they still don't know the crown jewels are fakes that i planted in the mid 80's. once again it was time for me to take a different path, i decided to be the first human to circle the globe using no aides aside from shoes (and some clothes). my glory was stolen when the world assumed i had drowned walking across the pacific. so i built a new identity, since my old lifes records self destructed upon my theoretical demise. i've decided that international renoun is not what i'm looking for so i now spend my spare time creating alternate universes, mainly to screw with the intelligent life that evolves...

Paradigm East

Founded in 2005 the eastern contingent of The Paradigm bring a unique flair to bellydance in their own unique approach. Ranging from Cabaribalusion, Rom, Dark Cabaret, Tribal fusion, Egyptian and more in between!

They are firm believers in teaching a clean and strong technique that lays a foundation for all bellydance styles. Learning the language of belly dance takes time, dedication and patience. Musical expression is also impressed as we love for those who dance with us to "feel" the music. It makes for a remarkable journey.

Sennyo

Jenny Carr was first introduced to hoop dancing by a small article in a dance magazine; she found herself instantly hooked. Unable to find an adult sized hoop, she learned to make her own. Jenny (who goes by the stage name Sennyo) was approached by audience members who were interested in this new found performing art, and asked if she could provide classes. Shortly thereafter Jenny took classes through Hoopnotica, and is now Bangor’s first and only certified hoopdance teacher.

Jenny now teaches weekly hooping for fitness classes, as well as private lessons for people of all levels of experience. She also holds more intense workshops around Bangor, Portland and other locations in Maine. Jenny can be seen performing on stage, street, parades and parties. She has had the privilege of making well over three hundred hoops to help spread hooping to many people around all parts of New England.
